GUWAHATI: DOCTORS HAVE SUGGESTED A SLEW OF HEALTH TIPS FOR VOTERS WHO WILL EXERCISE THEIR FRANCHISE IN THE FIRST PHASE OF ELECTIONS ON SATURDAY AMID the Covid pandemic.
“The first consideration for voters is to determine whether or not they feel well physically. If a person feels well and has no symptoms of a potential viral infection, they may choose to vote in person at the polling station. To avoid long lines on election day, people could also choose to vote early,” Dr Rashna Dass Hazarika, a city-based paediatrician, said. She asked everyone to carry an umbrella and drinking water with them.

She said one should try to vote early to avoid crowds.
Dass added that people should wear masks, stay at least 6 feet away from people when possible, avoid contact with those not wearing masks, bring hand sanitizers and wear goggles to protect their eyes. She also advised voters to wear comfortable shoes and clothes, bring a portable chair to sit in case there is a long queue. The stage is all set for the polls which will begin at 7 am and end at 6 pm. The timing has been extended by an hour to ensure that Covid protocols are maintained. As for the mercury level, the maximum temperature will be 5°C higher than normal across upper Assam districts.
Executive director of National Health Mission Dr Manoj Choudhury, told TOI, “The voters have been urged to wear masks or they will provided with one at the polling station. Covid mitigation facilities like sanitisers, thermal scanners, soaps and hand washing facilities will be a part of assured minimum facilities in each polling station across the state as per the Election Commission’s directive.”
